Uruguay roll past Jordan

A goal in the 40th minute from Edinson Cavani was enough to see South American side Uruguay past Jordan on 4 July in Burnaby and move them up to first in Group B with four points from two matches.

Uruguay kept up their unbeaten start to these finals with a rather nervy 1-0 win over Asian debutants Jordan. The rampant Edinson Cavani scored his second goal of these finals when he collected a fine cross from Gerardo Vonder Putten five minutes before the break to crush Jordanian dreams of a second-straight draw at their first-ever FIFA finals. The new boys managed to hit the woodwork shortly after conceding and did so once again in the second half, but it was to be the closest they would come to scoring.

Uruguay now sit in first place in Group B (before Spain's second game against Zambia) with four points to their name and will be keen to keep up their form in their final match with the Zambians on 7 July in Victoria.
