George Lwandamina, Zambia coach: "We left too much space in the first half, and Spain were comfortable and settled into their rhythm. After the restart, the boys realised they had to attack, but we didn't have enough time to get an equaliser. The players showed they can play really good football and that Zambia has a bright future. This tournament is helping them to grow."
Gines Melendez, Spain coach: "I think Zambia
were magnificent today, and they made it very hard for us. We
really suffered in the last few minutes because my players started
to feel tired as well. After we got the second I felt we were well
on top, but we fell away a little in the second half and they took
advantage by getting forward and causing us problems."
Clifford Mulenga, Zambia midfielder: "I'm
disappointed because the team worked their socks off, and we
performed really well in every department. We just couldn't
convert our chances though. Spain put theirs away and that was the
difference."
Juan Manuel Mata, Spain forward: "Diego
played a superb cross in for me, and I was lucky enough to score
and give us a little bit of a cushion. That's what gave us the
win in the end."
Gerard Pique, Spain defender: "We knew that
the game wasn't over at 2-0 and we tried to get a third but it
wouldn't come. They counter-attacked really well and in the
second half we started to feel very tired. All the same, I reckon
we're doing pretty well. We're scoring goals and picking up
points."
