Argentina win FIFA Fair Play Award

Argentina not only won the new silver trophy as the 2001 World Youth Champions but were also awarded the FIFA Fair Play Prize for their conduct throughout the three-week tournament.

In half of their six matches, the Argentinians received maximum marks for their good sportsmanship on and off the field of play. The ranking took into account the attitude of the players and team officials towards their opponents, the referee, the fans and others, as well as their willingness to play open and attacking football.

The top three teams in the Fair Play ranking - Argentina, Egypt (second) and Ghana (third) - were all among the four semi-finalists of the tournament, demonstrating once again that fair play also brings successful results.
