The USA and Costa Rica rounded out the CONCACAF’s four representatives to the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in convincing fashion in the Group B qualifying tournament in Tunapuna, Trinidad.

The two teams drew 1:1 on the final day of competition, but both had easilypunched their tickets for Argentina after rampaging wins on the first days, each hanging heavy defeats on Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago.

The two teams join Canada and Jamaica, who were the top two in the Group A tournament in Victoria, British Columbia in early March, as the Confederation’s teams in Argentina from 17 June-8 July.

The USA scored five goals in both matches in defeating Guatemala (5:0) andthe host country (5:1). Costa Rica opened the tournament with a 3:0 winagainst Trinidad & Tobago before destroying Central American rival Guatemala 8:1 to secure passage to the WYC.
