Nigeria and England drew 1-1 in Coquimbo, in a result which leaves both sides in a strong position to progress from Group A at Chile 2008. Natasha Dowie's strike in first-half injury time for the Europeans was matched by Ebere Orji's goal nineteen minutes from the end.
The opening minutes of the game were tight, with the first chance only arriving on 19 minutes, when England's Natasha Dowie shot from distance. Nigeria replied immediately, with Ebere Orji having two chances in quick succession.
Another long-range English shot, this time from Jessica Clarke, hit the crossbar on 32 minutes, and Mo Marley's side went ahead just before the half-time interval. Dowie wriggled down the right and sent in a cross-shot from a tight angle, which Nigerian keeper Marbel Egwuenu could not hold.
Nigeria went onto the offensive in the second period, and after a number of chances, drew level in the 71st minute. From a long-range free kick, Orji pounced when the ball rebounded from the crossbar, and stabbed the ball past Rebecca Spencer at the second attempt.
