On Sunday FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter met with a delegation from the Nigeria Football Association (NFF) and the organisers of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009 and offered them his congratulations for successfully staging the competition. The meeting took place in the lobby of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, just a few hours before the final between the tournament hosts and Blatter’s young compatriots.

Blatter was joined at the get-together by Mainasara Illo, CEO of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Sani Lulu Abdulahi, NFF President and Chairman of the LOC, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, NFF Secretary General, Jack Warner, FIFA vice-president and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Amos Adamu, member of the FIFA Executive Committee, and Rafiu Oladipo, Chairman of the Mobilisation and Awareness Committee of the LOC. The President of world football’s governing body chose the occasion to express his satisfaction at the success of the tournament to date.

“Although the competition provided us with one or two headaches before the kick-off, it has to be said that we have been right on track since it got under way,” he said. “We can see that it has been a success and FIFA is happy to have organised the tournament in this great footballing country.”

In recognising their achievements, Blatter officially presented the organisers with a pennant and a medal.
