The crowd at the Sani Abacha Stadium were treated to an entertaining first half which yielded a goal from either side in the game played in temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

In the early stages, Borja's volley from Pablo Sarabia's corner hit the roof of the net and then Sarabia himself went close with a curling free-kick. The pressure paid off in the 19th minute when Koke found Isco with a pass and despite a full-blooded challenge from Aboubacar Traore, the ball fell into the path of Sergi Roberto, who passed it into the net.

The goal forced Burkina Faso to go on the front foot and they drew level seven minutes later when Fadil Sido played a ball in between the goalkeeper and defence and Albert Dalmau slipped it past his own keeper while under pressure from Abdoulaye Ibrango. Although the striker wheeled away in celebration, there was no doubt as to who got the final touch.

Spain continued to dominate the ball and could have taken the lead on the stroke of half time when Borja saw his goalbound effort well blocked.

Ten minutes after the interval Ousmane Della was booked for a foul on Iker Muniain on the corner of the box. From the resulting free-kick, expertly delivered by Jon Aurtenetxe a minute later, Roberto's flick-on went past everyone, including the keeper, and ended up in the back of the net.

Rather than sit back, Spain kept on piling forward and in the 67th minute, Roberto completed his hat-trick when Muniain's ball from the right found him unmarked 12 yards from goal and the Barcelona youngster made no mistake.

There was further action nine minutes from time when another fine ball from Muniain looked destined to find Borja inside the box. However, Dalhata Soro pulled the striker's shirt and was awarded a straight red card. Up stepped substitute Adria Carmona, who sent the keeper the wrong way with his first touch after replacing Sarabia.
