Though the United Arab Emirates exited the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009 at the Round of 16 stage, their captain Marwan Al Saffar certainly left his mark on the competition. Indeed, his strike in his side’s opening Group E match in Kano was voted “Goal of the Tournament” by FIFA.com users.

One of the top-ten goals selected from Nigeria 2009 by FIFA.com’s editorial team, Al Saffar’s thumping free-kick effort into the top corner from all of 35 yards not only surprised Malawi keeper Cuthbert Seengwa but caught the imagination of those following the tournament on the site.

Switzerland’s Haris Seferovic, whose accurate finish rounded off a superb team move in his side’s semi-final against Colombia, finished second in the voting for the competition’s finest strike. Not that he will be too unhappy at this runners-up spot, given that he scored the only goal of his team’s final win over hosts Nigeria.

Taking the final place on the podium is Spain’s Isco, thanks to the sumptuous technique shown in his side’s 3-1 win over United Arab Emirates. Featuring superb close control, lightning quick feet and precision finishing, Isco’s effort was one of the highlights of La Roja’s run to third.

FIFA.com thanks you for voting and looks forward to your involvement in future “Goal of the Tournament” competitions at forthcoming FIFA events.
