The Organising Committee for the FIFA U-17 World Cup today confirmed Queretaro as the seventh and final venue for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Mexico 2011 at a meeting at the Home of FIFA in Zurich.
“Queretaro is famous for its football fans and made a mark in football history as a venue for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. We are also confident that we will have great crowds in every venue when history is written by a new generation of emerging stars,” explained Justino Compean, Chairman of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC), who was accompanied by Decio de Maria, LOC Member and General Secretary of the Mexican FA, Yon de Luisa, LOC Managing Director and Fernando Cerrilla, LOC Venue Director.
FIFA also praised the progress made by the Local Organising Committee. “Mexico has a great hosting record and we are very impressed by the preparations made so far by the LOC. The people of Mexico, with their passion and culture, will surely shape this FIFA U-17 World Cup. Infused with Mexico’s unique flavour it will be comparable to none. We're looking forward to an exciting, top-class tournament not to be missed this June and July”, said FIFA vice-president and chairman of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Jack Warner
The Committee also confirmed the match schedule, with the opening game to feature hosts Mexico in Morelia. Their opponents and the other matches will be made known on 17 May 2011 at the Official Draw in Mexico City.
“Morelia and Monterrey will be great hosts of the Mexican team during the group stage, but we can guarantee all Mexican football fans outstanding performances throughout the entire tournament”, concluded Decio de Maria, Member of the Local Organising Committee and General Secretary of the Mexican FA.
