Panama coach Jorge Dely Valdes
"We made two mistakes and that cost us two goals. We tried to come back from two down, but unfortunately we just couldn’t do it, but we gave it our all. We’re still united despite the defeat. This is our first U-17 World Cup and we’re here to learn first and foremost. This game against Germany has been a learning experience for us and when you come up against a great team all you can do is improve. We want to put all that into practice against Mexico in the last 16. Obviously it’s going to be difficult because the Mexicans are playing at home, but even so we still have a chance. I think we can beat them."
Germany coach Steffen Freund
"I’m happy with this third win and with our overall performance in the first round, though we gave them a lot of chances in the first half. That’s something we need to watch in the next phase. We knew the Panamanians would sit in their half and wait for us, and we scored two fantastic goals. We’re among the candidates for the title, but we’re not one of the favourites. The real favourites are still Mexico and Brazil, who’ve already shown what they can do here. It’s always very tough for European teams."
