Ecuador assistant coach Gonzalo Alcocer
"On Monday our heads were down after the difficult defeat, but that is football. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We wanted to come away with a positive result from this game against Panama. In the first half we wanted to play strong defensively, but we knew that we needed to win and that is why we played really offensive in the second half. My players know that they can play football and they really showed it. In a World Cup a win such as this one gives the whole team a lot of confidence. We are happy that we won - our first game against Germany was not good, so it was important to get the win today."
Panama coach Jorge Dely Valdes
"We played similar to our first game in which we won against Burkina Faso. Ecuador had lost against Germany, but they played strong in the first half and the red card made it very hard for us in the second half. Ecuador played the ball quite well and we could not push forward. We will not be able to win a game without fighting and will give everything we have against Germany. Of course they want to try to win the title, but they are not invincible."
