Uruguay-Brazil: Quotes

Uruguay coach Fabian Coito
"We’re very pleased and very happy to have reached the final. We had to play a nearly perfect game, with total focus from every one of the players, and I think that’s what happened. We’ve worked really hard not just preparing for this World Cup but also on these lads’ development, in order to prepare them for the international game. This is a project that’s been in place since 2006 and has contributed to this important era in Uruguayan football. I wasn’t expecting a result like this, given the standard of the two teams involved. We were able to take full advantage of the chances that came our way."

Brazil coach Emerson Avila
"In football, only one team can win. We knew it’d be a tough, hard-fought game from start to finish. Even though we knew how they like to set out their stall, we still conceded goals on the counter-attack, which we knew was where Uruguay were most dangerous. I have to congratulate my friend Fabian [Uruguay coach], who has done a great job in guiding a South American team to a World Cup final, which is a very difficult feat. But it’s not just down to him, I’d like to congratulate all his lads too, who are very talented and I’m sure will be playing for big clubs in the not-too-distant future."
