Heiko Herrlich (GER), Germany coach
"I'm pleased with the victory. Finishing third at
this World Cup is a good achievement for any German team be it the
seniors or the U-17s. I think overall, it was a deserved win. I
thought we played well in the second half, but I told the players
not to let the pace drop at half-time. However, they ignored my
instructions and allowed Ghana back into the game. We are grateful
to Toni Kroos for not only scoring the first goal, but being the
driving force for the second. I am sure he will have a bright
future in the game."
Sellas Tetteh (GHA), Ghana coach
"It was another case of bad luck for our team. All of
the players are very down in the dressing room after conceding
another late goal, but I am proud of them. We desperately wanted to
finish third and get the bronze medal, but fate had other ideas.
The result was harsh on us. I thought we matched Germany in every
way and even played better than them in the second half. At the
very least we deserved to take the tie into extra time."
Alexander Esswein (GER), Germany forward
"This is unbelievable! When I received the great pass
from Toni (Kroos) and I tapped the ball into the net, I was so
happy that I forgot about my first yellow card. To come on as a
substitute and score the goal that gives your time the third place
in a World Cup is a dream coming true. I don't think too many
people believed we could finish third, but here we are. It's
great."
Toni Kroos (GER), Germany midfielder
"We are very proud of what we accomplished
here. Maybe some people didn't believe we could be this good,
but we did it. We always believed in ourselves and all the hard
worked paid off. At a personal level, I am satisfied, but there
were many other good players in Korea. I am just happy that we
finished in third place, our main goal after losing the
semi-final."
Ransford Osei (GHA), Ghana forward
"I'm not happy, because we've lost twice right
at the end of the match, but this is football and these things
happen. I think we paid a high prize again for losing concentration
at the end of the match. We relaxed a bit and we gave them the
chance to score. I came here to win the Golden Boot but I came up
short, but I am very happy about the way we played as a team and
the way I played individually."
Paul Addo (GHA), Ghana defender
"I feel very bad, but there is nothing I can do now. I
don't think it was a concentration mistake, but we once again
didn't have any luck at the end of the match. I am satisfied
with the tournament we played and with today's match, because
today, we didn't deserve to lose. I think this team has a great
future."
