Heiko Herrlich (GER) Germany coach
"It was a very tight game in the first half,
but we never lost our patience. That said, we did have a couple of
chances to take the lead. Fortunately my players reacted
brilliantly in the second half, and the two goals we scored gave us
the confidence to go and finish the game off. I'd just like to
say how satisfied I am with the team we've put together, not
just on the pitch but off it too. It's like a machine in which
all the gears work perfectly."
John Peacock (ENG) England coach
"Naturally it hurts to lose a game like this.
Games between England and Germany are always special and it's
always painful to go out at this stage of a competition. I think
it's been a very useful tournament for our players, though.
They've gained a lot of experience playing against some very
strong sides from all over the world. I'm very happy to have
worked with this terrific squad for the last 15 months, and my
thanks to everyone who took part in this adventure."
Sascha Bigalke (GER) Germany midfielder
"I'm very proud of what we've achieved
in this game. Of course it was really important to score those two
goals at the start of the second half, but we never doubted our
ability. Up next are Nigeria, a very strong team. We won't be
favourites against them but I'm extremely confident we have the
quality to beat them and then go for the title."
Rhys Murphy (ENG) England forward
"We are completely shattered to have lost.
Germany were better on the day but I don't think 4-1 was a fair
scoreline. I think what happened was that we threw too many men
forward when we were looking for the equaliser and they made the
most of the spaces we left. We feel bad about losing, but I think
we did really well in the tournament and it's been a tremendous
experience for us."
