John Hackworth (USA), USA coach
"We're very happy. We've achieved our first
goal, which was making it through to the next round, and we did it
the hard way. We didn't let the pressure get to us and we
always believed in ourselves. That shows the character of my team.
We don't care who we play in the next round, as when you get
this far, it's the best teams in the world who are left in the
competition. What we need to do from now on is play as well as we
did today."
Bob Browaeys (BEL), Belgium coach
"It's obviously very disappointing for us. The red
card was the turning point, but the USA did very well today and
played the way you would expect them to. The way we played
throughout the tournament, particularly against Tajikistan, we
deserved to qualify, but that's football. We played well even
when we were down to ten men, but once we went behind 1-0, it got a
lot tougher. I'm very satisfied with my players, though. They
showed just how good they are against one of the best teams in the
world."
Mykell Bates (USA), USA captain
"I'm over the moon. Everyone had written
us off after we lost to Tunisia, but we had one more chance and we
took it. It's such a great feeling. We'll take each game as
it comes from the Round of 16 onwards. We just need to play our own
game and not be too concerned about who the opposition are.
It's such a relief. Now we can take a deep breath and carry on
with the tournament. We've still got a lot of work ahead of us,
but now anything is possible."
Dimitri Daeseleire (BEL), Belgium captain
"We're pretty disappointed. Before the
match, anything was possible. Once we were down to ten men, it was
tough. We gave it our all, but we ran out of steam after the red
card. Otherwise, it was a great tournament and a wonderful
experience. We played in big stadiums against some of the best
teams in the world. It could well end up being a once-in-a-lifetime
experience."
