Fabinho (BRA), Brazilforward
I had no idea that I had broken the record for the
fastest goal at a FIFA finals tournament! Obviously, I am delighted
and honoured and really grateful to my team-mates which helped me
achieve it. I have to pay special thanks to Alex who flicked the
ball on to me. I thought he was outstanding tonight, but then
again, he only performed as well as he did because of the way the
team worked together.
Jacob Gleeson (NZL), New Zealand goalkeeper
The boys are devastated in the dressing room. We
feel that we didn't give a good account of ourselves. Although
the coach praised my own performance after the game, I must have
done something wrong to end up conceding seven goals. We know we
can do a lot better - and all of the lads are desperate to put in a
performance that we can be proud of against England. We'll come
out with all guns blazing, that's for sure.
Lucho Nizzo (BRA), Brazilcoach
It wasn't an easy win for us this evening. We
had to work hard for the win. There were aspects of our performance
which we must improve upon - and I think we will improve game by
game. I think we will have to raise our standards, because Korea
DPR will be a much tougher test than New Zealand. I watched their
game against England and they really impressed me. The worked hard
during the 90 minutes and never stopped running.
Colin Tuaa (NZL), New Zealand coach
It was very disappointing and not the way we wanted
to start the tournament. We can play better than that. After we
conceded the first goal, I knew that we had a real mountain to
climb. There were some positives: we did some good things on the
ball going forward, but we defended poorly. After 20 months of hard
work that wasn't what I wanted to see, but after a couple of
days I am sure we can put things right.
