Juan Santisteban (ESP), Spain coach
"It was a very tough game. We played well against a side
that really kept their shape, had some good individual players and
who were impressive physically. However, I think Spain had more
goal-scoring opportunities and so deserved the win. Even though
we're already through, we'll be playing to win against
Argentina, as we want to top the group. It will be a very close
game."
Mohamad Aljomaa (SYR), Syria coach
"It's clearly a bad result for us. The wet
surface caused problems for my players, but I have a lot of respect
for Spain, who played very well. We managed to perform well in the
opening and closing ten minutes and almost won it at the end, only
to be denied by the excellent Spanish goalkeeper. Perhaps we
deserved a point, but that's football for you. Now we have to
beat Honduras. Four points should be enough to go
through."
Daniel Aquino (ESP), Spain striker
"To score a goal in the last minute and, moreover, for
it to be the one that put us into the knockout phase, is a dream
come true. I have to thank Bojan, who did all the hard work for the
goal. I only had to tap it in. In truth, it was a real team effort.
Was the match harder than I expected? Yes, because on top of
everything, the conditions out there on the pitch kept changing.
Fortunately, however, we managed to win the game."
Tamer Haj Mohamd (SYR), Syria midfielder
"It was a very hard game. I think we played particularly
well during the last 25 minutes. We're upset about conceding so
late and not being able to respond. We respect Honduras [our next
opponents], but I don't think they are at the same level as
Spain and Argentina. If we win, we'll almost certainly go
through."
