John Peacock (ENG) England coach
I'm really thrilled with today's result. I think it
was a very even game, but we were able to score at crucial moments.
I'm particularly pleased with the way we played in the second
half. We knew Brazil had a potent strike force, but thanks to our
organisation, we managed to stop them. It's been a great
experience.
Lucho Nizzo (BRA), Brazil coach
We didn't expect this defeat. We set our stall out and
took the game to them, whereas they sat back, invited us on and
then beat us from two dead balls that stemmed from our mistakes. I
feel the result was unfair. At any rate, the circumstances of this
defeat in no way change how confident we are of winning this
championship. We've performed well enough to be able to reach
the final, and that's where we're going to be.
Alex Smithies (ENG), England goalkeeper
That was a real rollercoaster ride for me. First I
conceded a goal I perhaps should have saved, although I was caught
out by the way the ball moved. Then I managed to save a penalty,
before we got the winning goal in the last minute. I'd like to
think I had some bearing on Lulinha's decision to put the
penalty where he did, because I pointed to the left corner before
he shot.
Maicon (BRA), Brazil defender
We lost because we were unable to put the game
beyond their reach when we had the chance. We knew it was going to
be a tight match between two quality teams, and in those
circumstances you cannot afford to miss so many goal-scoring
chances. If you don't convert then you pay for it, and
that's what happened to us today
