Brazil, Chile reach world stage

Brazil and Chile have won their way through to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Trinidad and Tobago 2010 after reaching the final of the CONMEBOL qualifying tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The third and last berth for the region will be fought out between Paraguay and Venezuela on Thursday.

Brazil claimed their place in the final by overpowering Venezuela 6-2 for their fourth win in as many outings at the tournament. In the other semi-final Chile defeated Paraguay 4-1 to reach their first U-17 finals.

"We played very well, and we achieved our main aim, a ticket to the World Cup,” said delighted Chilean coach Ronnie Rodonich. “We will try to keep calm and try to play some beautiful football in the final. We don’t now wish to loose concentration that we have showed so far in the previous games.”

The final and the third-place playoff will be played on Thursday.
