Jorge Vilda, Spain Coach
I’m very happy with how hard my players worked today, especially in the first half. In the second half we managed to hold on to our lead; the physical effort my team put in was impressive. We came here with the aim of getting past the group stage, and we did that. In my opinion, reaching the semis is a major achievement for women’s football in Spain, which should lead to more media coverage back home, and more girls taking up the game.
Edvaldo Erlacher, Brazil coach
Spain played much better than us in the first half, nullifying our team’s main strengths. After the break, our play improved but we quickly conceded another goal. We found the courage within ourselves to fight back, but we just ran out of time in the end. In any case, I’m proud of this group of girls. They’ve worn the shirt of their country with honour, and should develop into fine players in the future.
