Kenneth Zseremeta, Venezuela coach
We knew it wouldn’t be easy because we were making our debut. It’s always harder when you lack experience and that’s why it’s important to work on the mental side of things. We play a counter-attacking game and we stuck to that today. That’s our gameplan. We knew New Zealand were going to suffer because they’re not used to this kind of humidity, although they’re a strong, technical team who made it tough for us with their aerial game.
Dave Edmondson, New Zealand coach
Obviously I’m disappointed with the result but I’m happy with the way the team played and we had some great individual performances. Venezuela’s strength lies in their counter-attacks and we didn’t deal well with the long balls, which is something we were talking about yesterday. [Ysaura] Viso is a very good striker too. She’s got a lot of talent and takes her chances. At the end of the day though, this is an U-17 competition and the players are here to learn. I’ve got faith in them.
