A 2-1 win for Korea Republic over Brazil in Wellington was enough to put them into second spot in Group D on goals scored. Brazil, though still mathematically in with a chance of progression, face a very difficult task now.
The first half was barren of chances. Korea Republic looked the more likely to score initially, and on 17 minutes Lee Hyun Young broke through on the left, but her shot found the side netting. Brazil were generally reduced to shots from distance in the first period, although Raquel did find space for a close-range shot on 27 minutes following a sweeping move. The effort, however, flew over.
In the second half, the Koreans took control. Only two minutes after the interval, Lee Hyun Young's shot rebounded to her on the right, and she slipped Lee Min Sun through on goal, who took a touch to round the keeper and then slotted the ball home. Ten minutes later it was two, when Shin Mi Na's long ball evaded the Brazilian defence and fell to Lee Hyun Young; clean through on goal, she rode Aline's challenge and knocked the ball into an empty net.
On 66 minutes, Brazilian hopes rose when Raquel headed home Rafaelle's cross from the left, but they could not make the most of their chances thereafter. In fact, it was the Koreans who came closest to another goal, when Ji So Yun blazed over from close range in the 88th minute.
