Gambia have won their way through to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Azerbaijan after defeating Tunisia 2-1 in Tunis in the second leg of their qualifying tie. It is a historic result for Gambia, who will be making their debut at the U-17 tournament this September.
The first leg played in Brikama saw Gambia register a single-goal victory over their Tunisian counterparts two weeks ago. Substitute Fatou Darboe scored the only goal four minutes into injury time, and the Gambians even had the luxury of missing a penalty on the hour mark when Adama Tamba shot wide from the spot.
Gambia will be accompanied by Nigeria and Ghana, both of which secured their tickets to the world finals with respective victories over Zambia (2:1, 5:0) and South Africa (0:0, 5:1). Their triumphs mark the third successive time each side have progressed through to the tournament
