Chile beat USA to win Olympic bronze medal
Thanks to another two goals by their charismatic captain Ivan Zamorano, Chile clinched their first medal in the Sydney 2000 Olympics as they beat the United States in thr play-off in Sydney, 2-0.
It was not only Chile's first medal in a FIFA tournament since they beat Yugoslavia for the third spot in the 1962 World Cup in their own country, but also their first Olympic medal of any kind since 1988. But it took the Chileans more than an hour to break the stiff resistance of the solid US team. Six minutes from the end, Ivan Zamorano doubled up on his penalty goal when he scored from close range after a brilliant one-two into the American penalty area.
