The draw procedure for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Football Tournaments has been finalised by the FIFA Organising Committee. The draw ceremony will take place at Sydney Town Hall on Saturday, 3 June at 11:00.For the men's tournament , the 16 qualified teams will be placed in four pots and drawn into four groups of four teams.
Pot A: Australia, Brazil, USA, Korea Republic.
Pot B: Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, Spain.
Pot C: Cameroon, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa.
Pot D: Chile, Honduras, Kuwait, Japan.
No two teams from the same confederation will be drawn into the same group. The allocation of groups (i.e. which group is Group A, B, etc.) will be determined once the draw has been completed.
For the women's tournament , the eight teams will be organised into three pots.
Pot A: Australia, USA.
Pot B: Germany, Norway, Sweden.
Pot C: Brazil, China PR, Nigeria.
Hosts Australia will play in Group E along with either two teams from pot B and one team from pot C, or vice-versa. 1996 gold medallists USA will play in Group F with the other three teams from pots B and C.
The Olympic Football Tournaments will be played on 13-30 September in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney.
