Australia and USA seeded for draw of Olympic Football Tournaments 2000
The FIFA Organising Committee for the Olympic Football Tournaments designated the Australian men's and women's teams, and the US women's team, as A-1, E-1 and F-1 respectively when the final draw is held in early June next year. This measure will allow Australian fans to purchase tickets for specific matches, knowing for certain that their national men's and women's teams will be playing. The Sydney Organising Committee (SOCOG) expects most of the games of the tournaments to be played in front of sell-out crowds. A total of over 1.5 million football tickets will be on sale.
Other topics discussed at the meeting in Zurich on 27 October included the agreement that in both the men's and women's Tournaments, one player per team would be dope-tested after each match of the first round and quarter-finals, and two per team for the semi-finals and finals, making a total of 112 tests. The Chairman of the Committee, FIFA Vice-President Issa Hayatou, congratulated SOCOG on the quality of their preparations so far.
