The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) has communicated to CONMEBOL its desire to participate in an elimination series with Brazil for the single South American spot in this year's first FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship to be held in Canada from the 17th of August to the 1st of September, 2002.

Earlier, it had been determined that Brazil would represented CONMEBOL due to the lack of interest by the other regional federations, but a late request by Peru to participate in a preliminary round set the stage for a home and away series to determine the South American representative.

The first of two games between Peru and Brazil will take place on the 17th of March, at Monumental de Universitario stadium in Lima, Peru. The women's match will be the first of a double header with the second game set to decide the Peruvian league championship between the home team and Alianza Lima.

Referees for the first match have been designated:

Marisela CONTRERAS (VEN) - Referee
Maritza RODRÍGUEZ (VEN) - Assistant referee 1
Rosa CANALES (ECU) - Assistant referee 2
Ana PÉREZ (PER) - 4th Official

The return match is scheduled take place in the city of Fortaleza, in the northeast of Brazil, on the 27th of March.
