Charmaine Hooper named Canada 2002 honourary ambassador
The Canadian Soccer Association today announced Charmaine Hooper, the most capped female player in Canada, has accepted the position of Honourary Ambassador for the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship. Hooper will help raise awareness of the event and promote women's soccer at several promotional events scheduled for the months leading up to the Championship.
"As Honourary Ambassador, Charmaine will bring professionalism and a high profile to this event,“ said Kevan Pipe, CSA Chief Operating Officer. "With her credibility and visibility in the world of soccer, Charmaine will spread the word that women's soccer is a competitive sport and has a high entertainment value."
Hooper's first public appearance as Honourary Ambassador will take place in Edmonton on February 23 when she will visit the East and West Edmonton Indoor Soccer Facilities.
Hooper who has been with the Women's Program since 1986 has played in 79international games scoring 48 goals for Canada. Hooper begins her second season with the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA league on March 1. "I'm quite honoured to be named Honourary Ambassador for the first ever FIFA U-19Women's World Championship," said Hooper. "I hope I will be able to help raise awareness of the event and at the same time promote women's soccer as best as I can."
