Corinthians in the Final, Real contest third place
Local heroes Corinthians secured a place in the Final of the FIFA Club World Championship when they beat Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the final Group A match in Sao Paulo.
The margin of victory was just enough to give Corinthians the edge by one goal over Real Madrid, who had earlier beaten Raja Casablanca 3-2 in an eventful match in the Morumbi Stadium and thus earned a place in the play-off for third place.
It took a late goal by captain Rincon to secure Corinthians' victory, while Real had also only clinched their own game in the closing stages. The Real-Raja clash finished with only18 players on the pitch, three Madrid and one Casablanca players having been dismissed by the Argentinian referee.
Corinthians' opponents in Friday's Final will be either another Brazilian team, Vasco da Gama, or Necaxa of Mexico. These two teams play each other on Tuesday, following the match between Manchester United (who can still also qualify for the match for third place) and Australia's South Melbourne, already eliminated.
