USA and Cuba are the number 14 and 15 teams that have qualified for the final competition of the 3rd FIFA Futsal (indoor football) World Championship . They beat the opposition, including the hosts as well as Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador, in a qualifying tournament held in Guatemala from 31 August to 7 September.

The USA, as finalists beaten by Brazil in the in the 1992 Indoor Football Championship in Hong Kong, were more or less expected to qualify but Cuba's success is considered to be a minor sensation. The last time Cuba managed to qualify for a FIFA world championship was with its under-17 selection in 1991.

The final table of competitors for España '96 is, with the exception of the African representative, now complete. Those that have already qualified are China, Iran, Malaysia, Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, the Ukraine in addition to defending champions Brazil and hosts Spain. The final competition draw ceremony will be staged in the Sant Jordi Palau in Barcelona on Friday, 27 September, beginning at 20.30 hours.
