Russia advance despite defeat as Brazil remain on track
Despite a 2-6 defeat in the last match of the second round, Russia qualified for the semi-finals in Group E of the FIFA Futsal World Championship. The European Champions, who, along with Egypt and Argentina had three points, went through on the strength of a better goal difference. Brazil won their sixth game in a row, enrapturing the 7,200 spectators in the Domo hall with attractive futsal, dribbling, juggling and dancing with joy. Manoel Tobias scored three goals and now has a total of 16.
Only one more goal and Egypt would have qualified for the semi-finals.One point would have been enough against Argentina. But the Africans'dream did not come through. They lost 3-4 and finished Group E in 3rd place with three points only ahead of Argentina.
Egypt won a host of new friends during this FIFA Futsal World Championship with their riveting, techniques and impressive domination of the small football.
Egypt did not play with as much power and pressure as they had in their previous game against Argentina.
"We are pure amateurs. Six matches in ten days were too much for us. We had no more strength to beat Argentina", said Egypt's coach Soliman Mohamed Emad Hag, who was very satisfied withhis team's overall performance in the tournament.
On Friday, Spain will face Russia and Brazil will meet Portugal.
