Brazil in the semi-finals after a hard job
On the front page of its last edition FIFA Magazine asked: Who can stop Brazil? So far, nobody has been able to at the FIFA Futsal World Championship Guatemala 2000 . The World Champions, who lost their last match in February 1999 (0-1 against Ukraine), beat Argentina 4-1 and qualified for the semi-finals.
But Brazil had a hard time getting there. The 7,000 spectators in the Domo hall saw a tight game. The favourites had more ball possession, but Argentina made life difficult for their opponents, playing with great concentration and discipline in defence.
Egypt can still hope to reach the semi-finals. Twenty-four hours after their thrashing by Brazil (4-12), they played an excellent match against Russia. Egypt were ahead 4-1 with only 25 seconds remaining in the first half, but were mentally already in the locker room. Their lapse in concentration was punished by the Russians with two goals in just 19 seconds.
In the second half, Egypt controlled the game and took fewer risks. They clinched the match between the 36th and 38th minute, scoring two goals.
If Egypt win their last match in Group E against Argentina, they will also qualify for the semi-finals.
