Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Egypt, Russia, Croatia, Spain and Argentina have qualified for the second round which starts on Saturday. Brazil, Egypt, Russia and Argentina are in Group E, and the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Croatia in Group F.

Brazil had a very easy training session against Guatemala. The local team that won its match against Kazakhstan was completely dominated by the World Champions. The Brazilians scored their first seven goals injust eight minutes and had 102 shots during the whole game. Despite the huge defeat, the 7,500 spectators in the Domo hall celebrated their home team's last game in this tournament. Brazil's Manoel Tobias scored six goals. 29-2 is the highest score ever reached in any FIFA tournament.

Portugal are the second team in Group A who have qualified for the next round. They beat Kazakhstan 6-2, with Nelito scoring twice for the winning team. Kazakhstan lost player Bondarev after 28 minutes because of a second yellow card.

Egypt, Africa's only representative, won through in Group B. They overcame Uruguay 4-2 and with this result fulfilled their dream of qualifying for the next round.

The Netherlands, already qualified after two group matches, had no problem getting another three points. The Europeans won 6-1 against Thailand and left the Asians with no points after three matches. Dutch player Henny Lettinck scored two goals.

In Group C, Croatia got their ticket for the next round with a 4-1 over Costa Rica. The Europeans were the better team in a game in which the referees had to whistle for 26 fouls.

In the other match of this group, Russia had no problem whatsoever defeating the Australians. The team from Down Under scored after just 10 seconds, but later on they were forced to succumb to their opponents. Eight different players scored the ten Russian goals.

The interesting match in Group D was between Spain and Argentina. Both teams had already qualified; all they were fighting for was first place. Spain grabbed it, scoring three goals and the Argentinians none.

The other match between Iran and Cuba was only for statistical purposes because both sides had lost their previous games and had no more chance of going through. Iran won easily 3-0.
