Post-match reaction to Netherlands v. Turkey
Abdullah Avci (TUR): "We are sorry that we could not muster a better performance today and show better football. I am not at all happy with our performance but we were without a few players. We would like to thank the Peruvian fans who gave us such fantastic support in the semi-final against Brazil. That was really something special."
Ferhat Bikmaz (TUR): "We were still tired from the game against Brazil. After going a goal down early, it was difficult to motivate ourselves again although we tried everything. We were also without a few players because of red cards. I think overall we can be satisfied with the tournament."
Nuri Sahin (TUR): "We were very convincing in the first four games and played a good tournament going forward and in defence. Just as we did against Brazil, we conceded an early goal today which was not very helpful as the game against Brazil also took a lot out of us."
Ruud Kaiser (NED): "We are very proud of our win today. It was another very difficult game, especially until we went 2-0 up. That is as good as a gold medal for us today. I had to explain to our players before the game how important this match was. I showed them a video of the highlights from the previous games, which really stirred them. This Under-17 side is really something special, although I also have to say that the Turkish team is outstanding. They can also be proud of their tournament. I would like to thank the Peruvian people for the hospitality they have shown us."
John Goossens (NED): "Our overall performance at the tournament was good. It is nice that I am among the best strikers in the world thanks to my two goals today. But the most important thing was to get third place. That was the main objective I wanted to achieve with my goals. Unfortunately, we did not reach the final, but we were ultimately able to prepare ourselves mentally for this game, which was also very important. This victory means quite simply that we are the best European team."
Niels Vorthoren (NED): "It has been a great experience in Peru, being so far away from home. Peru is so different from Europe, we have seen a whole lot of new things. And at the end of it, we are the best European team."
