Close race for adidas awards
Several players are in contention for the adidas Golden Ball and Golden Shoe awards for the best players and top goalscorers at the FIFA ConfederationsCup Korea/Japan 2001.
While the accredited media will be selecting the man of their choice as the outstanding player of the 16 matches, the top scorer award is closely contested between several players.
Two players from France - Robert Pires and Eric Carriere - lead the standings with two goals and two assists each. Another French man, Sylvain Wilford, as well as Japan's Takayuki Suzuki and Sun Hong Hwang of Korea, have also scored two goals with no assists, but neither Hwang nor the suspended Suzuki can add to their total.
Three points are awarded for a goal and one for an assist, but the assists are only counted in the event that one or more players has scored the same number of goals.
The adidas awards will be presented to the winners in their respective countries.
