Sergio Batista, Argentina coach
You don't normally get results like this when Argentina face Brazil. We played a great game and above all showed character and intelligence. We had to be patient because they were always going to wait for us [to come at them]. We were superior in every area of the pitch and that's why we won. I always said that with these 18 players I'd fancy our chances to win anything, and the way they outplayed a great side like Brazil today explains why.
Juan Roman Riquelme, Argentina midfielder
This was a very special game for us. People said a lot of things about us and we owed ourselves a performance like this, especially after [losing] last year's Copa America final. Fortunately, we managed that and we enjoyed it to the full. We've achieved our first objective, which was to be here for the final on the 23. Now there is just one more step.
Dunga, Brazil coach
In games like these, the team that scores first always has a great advantage. They rocked us back with the opening goal, and then we had to go out in search of the equaliser. I have to admit they played very well. Now that we've lost, we'll have to accept this defeat with our heads held high when we arrive home. Doubts will be cast about my team and I after this defeat, but we'll stick to our ideals and keep going forward.
