Jean Francois De Sart, Belgium coach
The players were fantastic today and they did more than could have been expected. Losing one player at the very beginning made life extremely difficult for us. But we fielded our best line-up and we did superbly in attack. Even after we conceded two goal from spot-kicks, we kept our offensive approach in the second half until we won the game. We came to China with the ambition of achieving something in the Olympic Football Tournament. We experienced some difficulties in the opening games but we are becoming stronger.
Pierluigi Casiraghi, Italy coach
The result was disappointing but this is the Olympics. The players played hard so whatever the result was, they left the pitch with their heads held high. We were not brilliant as usual and our opponents had the bulk of possession. Belgium pressed hard and they were the better team on the night. The players are sad and I am responsible for the defeat. I have no idea what is my future even after I have worked with the team for over one year.
