Sergio Batista, Argentina coach
We weren't surprised to see Holland get men behind the ball, because every team has tried that tactic against us here. That said, it was a change of tactic for them. Still, this was a difficult game and significant triumph. We created chances that we failed to put away against a tough opponent with very good players. Over the course of the game we were the better side, so I'm very satisfied with the team.

Sergio Romero, Argentina goalkeeper
I was a bit nervous when I had to come off the bench, as I really wanted to do well and show I could provide the team with security. Luckily, things worked out as I'd hoped and we were able to secure a hard-fought victory.

Foppe de Haan, Netherlands coach
It was an extremely difficult game, and we didn't play as well as we could have, but on the whole I'm satisfied. We were under the cosh for the opening fifteen minutes but after that we found our feet. Messi's contribution was extraordinary. Every time he gets on the ball he demonstrates his incredible talent. In extra time, luck and tiredness are often big factors. We were unfortunate with the move that led to the second goal, as it was a defensive error. We had hoped to make it to Beijing, but instead we're heading home. It's a real pity.

Jonathan De Guzman, Netherlands midfielder
We showed Argentina a lot of respect at the start, but after Messi's goal we began to play and could even have beaten them. Regrettably, we conceded a goal in the last minute of [the opening period of] extra time, and after that we couldn't come back. Do I think Messi was the difference between the teams? Well he scored one goal and made another. Today I think the best team won.
