Samson Siasia, Nigeria coach
this was a very good game tonight. We made a few mistakes here and there but I am happy with the way my team played overall. We are going to enjoy this moment. I believe that all of my players played well tonight, and as a unit they were solid. We needed to win tonight; we didn't have a choice about this. So we needed to score goals. We talked about it at the half and I told them they should be more relaxed. The USA will be a tough opponent; they are a very good team. But we're not afraid of anyone, we just want to go out and get the job done.
Victor Anichebe, Nigeria scorer
The pitch was really ruddy tonight and the rain didn't help things either. This field gets a lot of use, and it's always going to get cut up. That, and the humidity, makes it difficult to play. But it's just something we have to get used to.
Yosuharu Sorimachi, Japan coach
We had some problems in the organisation of our midfield and it has been very difficult for us to score goals here at these Games. We are doing our best and I can't criticise my players' performances. Obviously we are upset about the results, but I can't fault my players. The boys will try their hardest against the Dutch in their next game, but I feel that our Olympic journey is now over.
