Foppe de Haan, Netherlands coach
In the first 30 minutes we played very well. We played with patience and comfort, but after that we lost control. The US decided to come at us and it caused us a lot of problems. Their fighting spirit was high and it forced us to lose control of midfield. I am not surprised we conceded two goals because we were playing very badly. In the end we got very lucky to get a free kick in a dangerous spot and because of it we are still alive.
Gerald Sibon, Netherlands scorer
I don't usually take the free kicks, but I stepped up and decided just to blast it on goal and see where it ends up. From that distance, I knew that if I hit the target it would be difficult for the keeper to get to it. It was.
Peter Nowak, USA coach
We were very close to being in the quarter-finals, but now at the end we are very far. It was a hell of a fight. After starting slowly, we settled the ball and began to play our game. I told them before the game, don't worry about the big names on the Dutch team. It means nothing if you don't fight. We scored two great goals, but in the end it wasn't enough. I think the Dutch were a little lucky to get a point today, but we will try to finish the job on Wednesday against Nigeria.
Michael Bradley, USA midfielder
I'm not sure how else we should have handled the last ten minutes. They had four forwards on the pitch at the end and they were trying to fight to survive. I thought we handled it pretty damn well, but in the end we were made to pay.
