Sergio Batista, Argentina coach
We knew we were in for a game and that they'd defend in numbers, and that's how it transpired. We didn't play as well as we'd hoped, which is why we struggled to win the game, but we've qualified now. There are still things to improve but we'll work on those as we go on.
Ezequiel Lavezzi, Argentina's goalscorer
The move that led to the goal was swift and well executed. I took up a position by the far post and volleyed the cross home. It's a huge delight, especially as I hadn't done so well in the opening game and wanted to prove I could be part of this team
Graham Arnold, Australia coach
I'm thrilled with the effort of my players against one of the best sides in the world. We really made things very difficult for them and even had our own chances to score. However, even if we'd drawn this one, we'd still have had to win our final group game, so this doesn't changes things much.
Mark Milligan, Australia captain.
When we got back to the dressing rooms we gave each other a pat on the back as we'd given everything out on the pitch. We know how close we came to drawing this one, and we're still alive in the tournament. That said, we'll need to improve and win our next game to go through.
