The FIFA Interactive World Cup introduced an exciting new qualification method for the 2014 edition of the world’s largest gaming tournament. The Community Qualification seat, awarded to the player that finishes in first place on the Community Qualifier Leaderboard, rewards the FIWC players for the quality of their gaming instead of the quantity.
With only two qualification season’s remaining, we take a look at the Community Qualification format to make sure that you have all the information you need to make your challenge for one of the remaining seats for the 2014 Grand Final, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro on 2 and 3 July during the 2014 FIFA World Cup™! We also spoke to our first three community qualifier winners to get their impressions on the new format and to discuss their excitement for the Grand Final.
Your chance to qualify
Each season of the six-month online qualification campaign, the two overall best players are awarded a place in the FIWC 2014 Grand Final. Every season, a third ticket is given to the winner of the respective season’s Community Qualifier. In total, 12 online winners and 6 Community Qualifier winners will join defending champion Bruce Grannec and the winner of the Brazil Qualifier on 24 April at the Grand Final in Rio.
To stand a chance of winning a Community Qualifier you must play a minimum of 30 matches in a season. You must also focus on the quality of your games instead of the quantity, as only the player with the best Community Qualifier ratio for the season will win a qualification seat. To learn more about how the ratio is calculated visit our Community Qualifiers page. To view your progress at any time, you can view the Community Qualifier leaderboard on the FIFA Interactive World Cup Facebook page.
In their words
“The leaderboard can be draining playing so many hours. This is a lot better,” says Season 2 Community Qualifier winner Adam Johnston from Dublin. “The community qualifier is 2 to 3 games a day which is suited to my time schedule.”
“Finally someone who doesn't have the time to play many games can qualify and I would like to thank you guys for that,” says Alban Xhemajli from the Netherlands. As the Season 3 Community Qualifier winner Alban can’t wait for his trip to Brazil to experience both the Grand Final and the 2014 FIFA World Cup™. “The most fun part for me will be the moment that I get out of the plane and know that I’m there with great days ahead of me,” he says.
“There's no better place in my opinion,” says Season 1 Community Qualifier winner David BytheWay when asked about Rio de Janeiro hosting the FIWC 2014 Grand Final. “Mixing the interactive world cup with the real world cup is a perfect combination.”
And what of the three qualified players chances at the Grand Final? “Anyone who is good enough to be at the finals are worthy of winning,” says David. Adam, meanwhile, is realistic about the effort it will take to raise the title. “It will take a lot of nerve,” he says. “But just like real football, it’s easier said than done.” Dutchman Alban echoes his Irish opponent’s sentiments. “Luck and composure will be the deciding factors,” he says.
