FIWC13 is live! The FIFA Interactive World Cup 2013 kicked off on Monday with the first of six online qualification seasons.

Over the past few days football gaming enthusiasts from all over the world have been getting to grips with EA SPORTS™ FIFA 13, honing their skills on the recently released game in the hopes of putting in a virtual performance worthy of qualification for the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2013 Grand Final. By the end of October, two players will have joined defending champion Alfonso Ramos at the Grand Final. Good luck to all our FIWC13 hopefuls in the opening season.

Grand Final Host
The votes have been counted and the results are in! Madrid will host the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2013 Grand Final. The race was neck and neck between the Spanish capital and London right up until the very last day of voting. Madrid received 40.59 per cent of the votes. London finished just behind the Spanish city with 37.24 per cent and, finally, Rome finished on 22.17 per cent. The Grand Final for the largest virtual computer gaming tournament in the world is coming to Spain, the home of the reigning world champions in both real and virtual football!

I am so thrilled that Madrid won! The home crowd will certainly give me an extra boost...all the pressure is definitely on my challengers!
Defending FIWC champion Alfonso Ramos

Next stop Madrid
When it comes to football at the moment, all roads lead to Spain. The Iberian nation is the home of the reigning European and world champions, not too mention two of the world’s most prestigious football clubs, namely Real Madrid and Barcelona. Madrid will follow in the glamorous footsteps of Los Angeles and Dubai as the next host of the FIFA Interactive World Cup.

Spain is leading the way in both real and virtual football. Current FIFA Interactive World Cup champion Alfonso Ramos made FIWC history earlier this year, becoming the first player to win the title twice. The Spanish champion is delighted to have the opportunity to defend his title in his hometown of Madrid.

"I am so thrilled that Madrid won! The home crowd will certainly give me an extra boost. As a two-time champion and now with the finale coming to Spain... all the pressure is definitely on my challengers!" Ramos said.
