Tournament format will test Grand Finalists

The Grand Final of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2012, taking place in Dubai from 21-23 May, is set to be a spectacular celebration of virtual football.

At the FIWC showpiece, 24 of the world’s best EA SPORTS™ FIFA 12 gamers will embark on an intense three-day tournament. At stake is the FIFA Interactive World Cup title, USD20,000 in prize money and an exclusive trip to the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala.

For those of you unable to attend the Grand Final, you can join us online for all the excitement. We will be streaming the top matches from the FIWC12 Grand Final live. The games that will be played over the course of the three-day tournament promise to be of the highest quality as our group of elite FIWC gamers battle it our for the world title in Dubai.

Group stage
Once all 24 Grand Finalist have touched down in Dubai, we will hold an official draw to decide the four groups - consisting of six players each - for the FIWC12 Grand Final. Live streaming for the the draw will start at 14:30 GMT. Former FIWC champions will be seeded and, as a result, will not face each other in the group stage. The group stage will work on a a round-robin format and each match will consist of five minute halves.

Intensity raised on Day Two
The remaining group stage matches will be played on the second day of the tournament. The intensity level of these games promises to be high as finalists try to qualify for the knockout phase of the tournament. By the end of Day Two, we will know the names of the eight players going into the quarter-finals of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2012!

The main event
From the quarter-finals onwards, gamers will play matches consisting of six minute halves. Day Three will end with the match we are all eagerly anticipating: The FIWC12 Final! Who will rise to the occasion? One thing is certain, it’s going to be close!
