Tough at the top

A trio of Dutchmen led the way heading into Round 8 of the FIFA Interactive World Cup, but that Oranje complexion at the summit faded. Tek9nlk suffered the most, dropping from first place to 35th, and now sits a massive 1,121 points off the pace.

The new king of the heap is STRELA1000. The Croatian is currently averaging 3.26 goals a game and conceding only 0.89.

undercover_king was the only Dutchman to survive Round 8's attack on the leaderboard. No doubt his current streak of 12 games without defeat helped him hang on to second place. Countryman LocoIvor only slipped two places to fifth, and currently has the best defensive record of the top 20.

Top ten newcomer Jad_3 climbed from 14th to third, but will need to hold on tight: the Northern Irishman currently concedes the most goals on average out of the top ten. Germany's Ihleburg moved from 21st place to sixth this week, temporarily snatching the last available seat for Grand Final hopefuls from the European zone.

While Europe's best have been fighting it out, Brazilian Buffo2k8 has been racing up the standings. His 35th spot in Week 4 is now a fourth place in Week 8. No doubt the massive increase in online players is making the semi-finalist in the FIFA Internactive World Cup 2008 Grand Final take nothing for granted.

In the battle for South America's second spot, just 30 points separate Brazilian's dignitasmath and FEaumomaea. The pair are on win-streaks of 20 and 16 respectively.

In the North, Central America and Caribbean zone, Mexico's floera64 and the USA's DHARIUS11CARTEL are guarding the two available seats. In the Asian zone, Australia's ThE_HaUnTeD_07 is in ninth, 335 points away from Asia's new runner-up, Saudi Arabia's Hussain_H.

Africa's number one remains mikkaeel, who sits on fifteenth overall. mikkaeel's closest challenger for the single continental spot at the Grand Final is 826 points away.

What will Week 9 bring? Gamers, make sure to put in the time or you may just be left behind.
