Following a battling performance in Johannesburg, New Zealand's Shane Smeltz was chosen by the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) as tonight's Budweiser Man of the Match.

"It was a tough game and both sides were eager to get on the scoresheet," explained TSG member Rodrigo Kenton, who closely followed proceedings at the Ellis Park Stadium. "Smeltz worked hard for the team and often found himself up against two or three defenders. On top of that, he was always open for a pass and provided a constant threat on goal throughout the 90 minutes, so he was deservedly named Budweiser Man of the Match."
