Budweiser Man of the Match: Maicon (BRA)
Brazilian right-back Maicon made an immediate impact in his return to A Seleção's starting line-up. The attacking defender was the FIFA Technical Study Group's choice as Budweiser Man of the Match. After an impressive 61 minutes of solid holding play and lightning quick counter attacks, Maicon scored the third goal of the evening after linking up with his forwards to start and finish a quick three pass move.
TSG member Holger Osieck, a former assistant coach of Germany's 1990 FIFA World Cup winning team, had this to say about the man of the match.
"Maicon had a great impact on the game and was key in Brazil's domination of the match. Particularly in the first-half; he applied a lot of pressure down the right flank, assisting in the first goal and scoring a beautiful goal in the second half "All in all, he had an outstanding performance and deserved to be named man of the match."
