Bernard Parker's finishing skills and calmness in front of goal were the main reasons why the FIFA Technical Study Group watching South Africa play New Zealand chose the Bafana Bafana striker as their Budweiser Man of the Match. Parker scored both the hosts' goals as they secured a 2-0 win over the Kiwis at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg in Group A of the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009.

"Aside from the two goals he scored, Parker posed a constant threat to the New Zealand defence with his mobility, alertness and commitment throughout the game," explained TSG member Holger Osieck of Germany. "He was, without doubt, South Africa's main attacking weapon tonight."
