Noted for his skill, speed and technique, South Africa midfielder Teko Modise unveiled his full repertoire at the opening game of the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 against Iraq, earning the FIFA Technical Study Group's vote as the Budweiser Man of the Match.

"Modise was very alert throughout the game and was at the heart of all South Africa's attacking moves," commented TSG member Rodrigo Kenton of Costa Rica, who was in the crowd at Ellis Park.

"In a very dynamic performance, he appeared all over the pitch and showed real character in bringing his team-mates into the game. He never stopped looking for the ball, never gave up and was fully involved whenever he had to be.

"He dictated the pace in the midfield and read the game better than anyone this afternoon. That's why he is our choice as man of the match."
