There have been some great goals at the UEFA European
Championships. Who can forget Paul Gascoigne lobbing the ball over
Colin Hendry with his left foot before volleying past Andy Goram
with his right at Wembley Stadium 12 years ago? Or what about John
Jensen's speculative effort against Germany which won the
tournament for Denmark in 1992? Arguably, the pick of the bunch
came in 1988, however, with Marco van Basten's sumptuous volley
aganst USSR.
But in this 'Have Your Say', we're not
concentrating on the goals, but the scorers that could have their
say in this year's tournament. Current favourite to win the
Golden Shoe at EURO 2008 is Liverpool's Spanish striker
Fernando Torres, but a host of talented hotshots are aiming high,
including Germany's Miroslav Klose, Italy's Luca Toni,
Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Netherlands striker Ruud van
Nistelrooy.
Then there's Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward scored 42 goals for Manchester United in all competitions during the 2007/08 campaign and must surely be a contender. So too are French duo Thierry Henry and Karim Benzema, and what about relatively new kids on the international block such as Mario Gomez, David Villa and Mladen Petric?
So, who do you think will finish as the tournament's top scorer? Whether it's one of the contenders aforementioned or someone completely different, just click 'Add your comment' to join the debate, remembering to keep your posts clean, respectful and in English.
